Situation

Royal Chess Mall is an online store selling chess sets, boards, pieces, and accessories to players and collectors worldwide. The business had a clear international market — chess is a global product with buyers across the US, UK, Europe, and India — but the site’s organic reach was not keeping pace with that potential.

At 53,000 monthly organic visits, the site was growing slowly. The main issues:

  • Limited international keyword targeting. The site was mostly optimised for Indian traffic despite having a strong US/UK buyer base.
  • Content was thin across product categories — missing the buying guides, comparisons, and educational content that chess shoppers search for.
  • No clear international SEO structure (hreflang, country-targeting, or region-specific content).

What I Did

1. International SEO Setup

  • Researched how buyers in the US, UK, and Europe search for chess products — different terminology, price expectations, and product preferences compared to Indian buyers.
  • Set up proper international SEO signals to help Google understand which pages were most relevant for each market.
  • Built country-specific content where needed (e.g., UK English, US product naming conventions).

2. Content Scaling

  • Identified and filled content gaps across product categories — buying guides, “best chess set for beginners,” comparison articles, and educational chess content.
  • Scaled content production systematically across product categories, keeping quality consistent.
  • Improved product page content to answer buyer questions directly (materials, sizing, skill level recommendations).

3. Technical & On-Page Improvements

  • Fixed crawl issues that were limiting how many pages Google was indexing.
  • Strengthened internal linking between product pages, category pages, and content guides to spread ranking authority.
  • Optimised category and product page titles and meta descriptions for target buyer intent.

Results

  • Monthly organic visits grew from 53,000 to 123,000 (+132%) through international SEO expansion and content scaling.
  • The site built consistent organic presence across major chess-buying markets in the US, UK, and Europe.
